It's time for the mandatory check-in!

Please let us know if all's going well and you're on track to finish your assignment on time. As a reminder, the deadline for primary vid assignments is September 29th. Just comment here with a "still in!" or email us at equinoxvids@gmail.com. If, however, you will not be able to complete your assignment, please let us know as soon as you can. All vidders must check in by September 8th at the latest; we'll try to contact you if you don't, but if we're unable to reach you by the default deadline of September 15th, you'll be assumed to be in default.

Comments on this post are screened!

Also, the AO3 collection is now accepting vid posts, so if you've finished your assignment or a treat, feel free to go ahead and upload it now. You can refer to the visual guide to posting in the Rules & Guidelines, or you can contact us for assistance.

Thanks so much!

Hello all! This is the round up post for Fall 2019 Dear Equinox letters. If you've written a letter (or when you do), please link it here in the comments, along with a) the name you signed up with and b) a list of the fandoms you requested.

Letters are are entirely optional, but can be fun! If you'd like to see some examples, the Dear Equinox post from Fall 2017 has plenty of links in the comments. Letters can be posted to DW, Tumblr, a Google doc, your Wordpress blog, or anywhere you like.

Letters are for the vidder assigned to you, or anyone who might want to make you a treat. They should at least contain your requested fandoms and any character or relationship tags in your requests, and are a good place to fill out your requests by adding more details, likes/dislikes, music preferences/suggestions, and so on.

You can also include trigger information in your letter if you wish to do so. Your letter is a good place to get that information to treat vidders; including it is in no way required, and you should only do what you're comfortable with, but mods won't be able to communicate directly with treat vidders like we can to your assigned vidder.

If your assigned recipient did not include a Dear Equinox letter link in their sign-up, make sure to check the comments on this post! They may have chosen not to write one, but it's also possible they forgot to include it or didn't write it before sign-ups closed.

Have fun, and as always, you can reach the mods at equinoxvids@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Happy vidding!

Today is the last day to nominate fandoms for Fall Equinox 2019: Costume Party! Nominations will close at 11:59pm Eastern, so please make sure to get your final nominations in before then.

We need one clarification as of now:

Against the Wind was nominated, but there are several sources with that title. Could the nominator please clarify the source type (mini-series, movie, etc.) and year of the intended nomination?

Thanks!

Fandom nominations are now open for Fall Equinox 2019: Costume Party. Nominations will remain open until Saturday, July 20th.

You can nominate up to 10 safety fandoms and 10 non-safety fandoms here:

Fall Equinox Safety Fandoms Tag Set Nominations Page
- for video (TV, movie, streaming, etc.) fandoms that have exact runtimes of 240 minutes or less and have no more than two films / episodes / separate parts within the scope of the nominated fandom tag.

Fall Equinox Non-Safety Fandoms Tag Set Nominations Page - for fandoms that are 241+ minutes in length (total), and/or have three or more films / episodes / separate parts. Any sources without exact video runtimes, such as books, podcasts, and video games, should be nominated here.

The full description of what fandoms qualify for "Costume Party":

Fictional sources in any format that are set in earlier eras than they were produced/released in -- e.g., costume / period / historical dramas and comedies.

For the purposes of this theme, the earlier era the source is set in must be at least 20 years prior to the period in which the source was made; for example, a source released in 2019 could be set in 1999 or earlier.

Magical realism sources or other kinds of genres that blend "real world" settings with purely fantasy settings/alternate realities/etc. are allowed so long as the source is a) primarily set or grounded in the "real world," and b) the source fits all other rules for the theme.

Sources do not have to be strictly historical; sources based on Homeric epics, Arthurian legend, Shakespearean plays, Bronte novels etc. are fine. Sources that seem to be set in specific eras but have fictional kingdoms/rulers are probably also fine, so long as they are not overtly different fantasy worlds (e.g., Galavant is probably fine as it is vaguely medieval Europe, Lord of the Rings is not fine as Middle Earth is distinctly another world).

Sources with a mix of eras that include the present day (or the present day as it was when the source was released) are allowed, so long as a significant majority of the material is set in earlier eras. Examples include Interview with the Vampire, where the characters have lived through to the current day, and Saving Private Ryan, which is told in flashback.

Time travel clarification: Time travel is only allowed if all parts of the source meet the "set 20+ years before source's current day" rule -- e.g., Outlander, where a character from the past travels further back into the past; otherwise, characters must be from the eras in which they're shown. Sources featuring "present day" characters in the past don't qualify, as they are considered to still be primarily grounded in the present day.

As usual, the tag moderators will be approving or rejecting tags as nominations are submitted. This saves time and allows participants to see an actively updated list of what has already been nominated (and accepted). Please keep in mind that this means that once your nominations have been sent in, there's no guarantee you'll be able to edit them.

If you have questions about nominations, particular fandoms, or anything else, you can leave comments on this post or email us at equinoxvids@gmail.com.

The theme voted in for Fall Equinox 2019 is Costume Party

Now that Spring Equinox is live, it's time to play Guess the Equinox Vidder!

Remember: if you already know who made the vid, please don't reveal the vidder; inside information ≠ a guess. And if someone guesses you correctly, don't comment to say so! (At least, not until after reveals.)

Here are a couple of past guessing posts if you want to see examples of how this goes: Spring Equinox 2017, Fall Equinox 2017, Fall Equinox 2018.

So take some wild stabs in the dark, or carefully analyze editing styles, or whatever you'd like -- and post your guesses here!

Spring Equinox vids go live on April 20! That means there's one week left to make and upload any vid treats. If you'd like to make a last-minute treat for Equinox but don't have any ideas yet, here are some useful links:

- Dear Equinox letters are linked here

- The full list of requests on AO3 can be browsed here

The official deadline for treats is Friday, April 19th at 9PM Eastern.

We'll take treats right up until the vid checkers have to go to bed on Friday night, but we can't guarantee how late that will be; if you're vidding past 9PM Eastern on the 19th, please shoot us an email (equinoxvids@gmail.com) and let us know you have a vid coming in.

Treats must be at least thirty seconds in length, and need to follow all other standard rules for vid submissions. Here are the full rules for vid treats.
